6:45 am
we have to just focus and at least take one tomorrow so we can go to st. louis and battle there. >> i wouldn't say it's a huge issue but it's good we want to do. we want to make sure we can win at home in front of our fans. it's important for us. in saying that, we didn't do it last series and it worked out okay. i think the idea is still the same, we're going to go in tomorrow looking to win. >> reporter: now, of course even if the giants win tonight, they're still going to have to go on the road this week to st. louis and win at least one game there on the road. the good news is the giants were tied for third in the national league with the best road record in the national league. the first pitch tonight from ryan vogelsong, the game two starter, is at 5:15 p.m. >> thank you, john henry. thousands of fans will be heading to the ballpark today hoping for a win at home. >> christie smith is live in san francisco where seats are still available for a price. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to

i love when we get live pictures illustrating science on a monday morning. i want to show you what's happening here. the marine layer is being forced right to the surface but you can see above that thin, thin deck of clouds, it's being forced right to the surface so we're dropping off in visibility all across the bay area. this, in fact, is san jose. but it's really hard to make out. even the tops of the city buildings. you'll notice that throughout this morning. the fog will clear quickly, though. 56 in sonoma, 58 in stinston beach and 56 in san francisco. 59 in san jose and 53 grows in santa cruz. if you can hold on for one minute, i'll have your giants forecast ready to go and i do believe winds will play a factor in tonight's game. tonight it's calm winds and clear skies that have led to the development of this very thick fog. you're going to find really deep pockets from santa rosa through napa. as i said before, it's a thin marine layer so it's not going to last very long. high pressure is moving in and forcing all that moisture right to the surface.

hence, we drop off in visibility but this is going to nudge the storm track to the north all week long. we're talking about dense fog in the morning, clearing skies early and 80s return inland. 85 at livermore, 84 in gilroy and 80 degrees in santa cruz. let's talk giants. 67 degrees at first pitch. it's going to be comfortable out there. you're going to get a lot of sunshine. i don't believe the fog will be back until late tonight, which is good news for the ball travel, you'll be able to see it. the next couple of days, things are going to change. we'll hit the 90s by wednesday and mid-90s by thursday. that's your beach day if you can get out there. temperatures will drop friday into the 70s, bring in more cloud cover and maybe some rain sunday into monday. 6:49. let's check how that fog is impacting your drive with mike. >> first of all, just a general reminder when visibility comes down, you can't see as far, lower the speeds. also that fog may lead to some slicker pavement so we're

tracking that. the volume starts to build but here on the bay bridge itself, we had an earlier accident which has slowly cleared that upper deck past treasure island and now we're starting to see a good bit of recovery. but there's a backup at the toll plaza and more folks slowing down the east shore freeway. if you're thinking about using the sap mateo bridge as an alternate. south 880 at 92, an earlier accident there. adding to the slowdown and backup coming out of oakland and down through hawayward, down toward that toll plaza. more slowing for the tri-valley east bay. we're looking at south 680 through pleasanton and into sunol. might get a patch of fog here and there as well as an accident at the bottom of your screen reported right around and rchla. south bay, 101 slows all the way

rocketed up 70%? >> yeah, 70% on friday and still doing pretty well this morning, up 2%. that is not shabby for any stock on any given day. the dow industrials up about 21 points this morning. it will be a busy week on wall street, lots of silicon valley companies reporting their financials. san francisco tech reporters were spoofed on "saturday night live" over the weekend. pretend reporters from wired magazine and c-net who complained about apple maps were presented with pretend chinese factory workers who mocked the reporters for their first world problems. the factory workers said they didn't need to use apple apps because they live and work in the exact same place. here's a clip. >> finally, would you guys like to complain about an american product? >> hmm. >> oh, that's a question. >> let's see, what does america make?

6:57 am
but a lot of the official parties would take place in san francisco. that's the hitch and probably one reason why mayor ed lee is so interested in getting the super bowl back to the bay area. to give you a sense of what kind of connection the 49ers still feel to sf, even though they're moving here to santa clara, team owner jed york has told the chronicle that if the 49ers were to win the super bowl, they'd have their victory parade in san francisco. so is santa clara leadership taken aback by all this? not at all. kwie the opposite. >> we're all one region, the san francisco bay region. santa clara and san francisco have -- you know, we have a history going back to the mission and the presidio. so we are only separated by 40 miles and there will be 40 miles of parties i'm sure in between. so it's fine leverage all the resources we have to showcase how great a place it is we live. >> reporter: that's santa clara mayor jamie matthews who tells us he's appreciative of mayor ed lee taking the lead on putting this bid together.
6:58 am
it's been a while since the bay area hosted a super bowl, back in 1985 at stanford stadium. the 49ers are expected to make the short list, which means that they would have to submit a plan and then present a live presentation to all the team owners in may who would have the final say. the reason why they have to wait until 2016, the nfl requires you play at least two full seasons in your new stadium. they're not expected to have this open until the 2014 season, so the earliest they could host would be 2016, 2017. reporting live here in santa clara, bob redell, "today in the bay." i want to check the forecast now with meteorologist christina loren. we keep talking about the foggy start but we're going to see some high temperatures this week too. >> we certainly are. the fog is not going to last log. 85 inland, 77 bayside and 69 at the coast. what i will tell you, though, it is thick out there this morning. the sun doesn't even come up until 7:17. it will set tonight at 6:32. let's check on your drive at
